A few pictures from a trip from Tachov, through Hrubý Rohozec castle and Javorník hill to Ještěd.
Everybody in Czech knows the familiar silhouette of Ještěd. What was not known to me however was the former military district area of Ralsko: deserted forests with sandstone rocks, castle ruins and ponds, some newer ruins of prefabricated housing projects in the town of ghosts and despair in Ploužnice (the town is actually still inhabited), the large military airport of Hradčany where in the bomb-proof shelters now house ultralight planes and a warehouse of sawdust in place of supersonic fighters. Further on, in the middle of a forest is a place surrounded by old oaks, the only indication of a former village of Strážov (only caves and cellars remained to this day from the village and its mansion). Here you will for sure meet no-one… This area of Ralsko adjoins to the Bezděz castle and Křivoklát castle areas, two more interesting natural resorts, which however are already well known as tourist destinations.
